There’s no clever way to lead into this: On his tour right now, Rod Stewart utilizes a bizarre AI video depicting Ozzy Osbourne and other deceased music icons taking selfies together in Heaven.
The surreal scene plays out during Stewart’s performance of his classic hit “Forever Young,” and is ostensibly a tribute to Osbourne and other late music legends depicted … but due to the inherently off-putting nature of this sort of AI imagery, it’s all a bit uncomfortable at best.
With AI Osbourne — who passed away on July 22 at the age of 76 — holding up a selfie stick in the clouds, Stewart sings “Forever Young” to scenes depicting a number of dead music stars posing with Ozzy, a list that includes Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, Tina Turner, Prince, Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur, Freddie Mercury, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, George Michael and more, as seen here from Stewart’s gig in Georgia on Aug. 1:
Reactions to this video have gone viral on the internet over the past few days, with most adopting this general tone:
Onstage in Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 29, Stewart reportedly said this during the “Forever Young” heaven selfie AI segment, as mentioned in the Charlotte Reporter’s entertaining tour review:
“Very sad. A lot of those people died ’cause of drugs,” Stewart said to the crowd, glumly, as he reflected on the images. Then, brightening, he added, “I’m still here, though!”
