CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – At the University of Virginia, a conversation turned to the power of people over programs.
Inside Newcomb Hall Theater, students, alumni, and faculty gathered for a talk on what machines can do — and what they cannot.
The event, titled “The Human Edge: What AI Can’t Do and the Enduring Importance of the Liberal Arts,” featured Christa Davis Acampora, Dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. She shared why human creativity and critical thinking remain essential in an increasingly digital world.
“Artificial intelligence is changing the world — that change is rapid — and we need the liberal arts and sciences more than we ever have before,” Acampora said.
The lecture is part of UVA’s More Than the Score series, which offers campus discussions before each home football game. Organizers say the series encourages lifelong learning and community connection — and that the final fall session will be available both in person and online through the program’s hybrid format.
