Misericordia University and Back Mountain Chamber ‘Demystify AI’ for Local Business Community

DALLAS, PA – Misericordia University, in partnership with the Back Mountain Chamber, recently hosted a professional development program, “Demystifying AI: What it is. Why it matters. How to use it.” on Friday, October 24, 2025. The interactive session brought together regional business leaders and community members to explore the rapidly expanding role of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life and the workplace.

The program was co-facilitated by Paul Nardone, director of the Center for Workforce Development and Talent Solutions in Misericordia’s College of Business, and David Johndrow, the University’s director of information technology. Together, they introduced participants to key AI concepts, tools, and trends, emphasizing practical applications that can support productivity, decision-making, and customer service.

Attendees examined real-world scenarios in which AI is already embedded in business operations and daily routines, while also discussing data privacy, bias, and other ethical considerations. The goal, Nardone explained, was to move AI from an abstract buzzword to an approachable tool that organizations of all sizes can use thoughtfully and responsibly.

“Our goal was to take the mystery out of AI,” said Nardone. “By deepening understanding and encouraging thoughtful use, we can empower individuals and organizations to harness the potential of AI responsibly and confidently.”

The event reflects Misericordia University’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and lifelong learning through innovative workforce development initiatives. Additional sessions on technology, leadership, and professional skills are being planned through the Center for Workforce Development and Talent Solutions, in collaboration with regional partners like the Back Mountain Chamber.
